Why Basic

What this plan is for

Basic is the account IB networks introduce clients on. It opens from USD 50, charges no commission on FX or gold, and carries the highest leverage available at up to 1:1000. The cost is entirely in the spread: a 2.5 pip markup on the majors, the widest of the five groups.

A first live account

USD 50 opens the account, and 0.01 lot sizing keeps each position small enough to learn from without committing meaningful capital.

No commission to track

Nothing is charged per lot on FX or gold. The whole cost sits in the spread, which is simple to reason about even though it is not cheap.

The most room

Leverage up to 1:1000 with a stop out at 30% gives a small balance more room than any other group — in both directions.

The trade-off worth knowing

Basic in plain terms

Basic is the most expensive group to trade by a wide margin. The 2.5 pip markup is roughly USD 25 per standard lot round turn on a USD-quoted major, against about USD 13 on Pro and USD 8 on ECN. On gold the gap is far starker: USD 2.50 an ounce is about USD 250 a lot, where ECN costs about USD 8. At 1:1000 a 1% move against a fully margined position is the account. The low entry and the high leverage are the same decision — USD 50 can only reach a tradeable size through leverage, and leverage is also what empties it.

Questions

Basic questions

It is enough to open the account and place 0.01 lot positions. Whether it is enough to trade a given instrument depends on that instrument's margin requirement and your stop distance. A balance this size is consumed quickly by normal market movement, and leverage up to 1:1000 accelerates that both ways.
